Peter and Catherine are clients I hold very dear to my heart. I had the honor of photographing couples photos of them at a wedding photography workshop I attended back in 2012. It was that workshop that I decided to change my life forever and pursue a career in wedding photography. Since then, I have been lucky enough to be asked to photography their Maternity and Newborn Session with their first son, Rhodes. I continued my journey with them by documenting the arrival of their second baby boy, Ethan. It is the most fulfilling feeling in the world to walk into someone’s home and see photos you took framed and beautifully displayed on your client’s walls.

Baby Ethan is a big boy with deliciously chubby cheeks. Both he and big brother Rhodes seem wise beyond their years when they look at you…like they have a story to tell that you don’t know about yet. We got so many precious shots of Rhodes doting on his baby brother. You can already see these two have such a special relationship.

As much as I love a perfectly posed image at my sessions, I think capturing real moments is just as sweet. In the image above, Ethan was screaming at the top of his lungs and I just kept shooting as the rest of the family laughed at the perfect imperfection of the moment.

Rhodes was so gentle and sweet with baby Ethan. Some of these shots were posed but others were simply moments Rhodes created on his own. I love when organic moments happen!

Watching Catherine become a mom has been such a beautiful transition to witness. She looks at her babies with stars in her eyes. She does this adorable thing on Instagram where she posts before and afters of Rhodes’ lunch. It’s strangely gratifying to see what he ate from the cute little sectioned off tray she packs his lunches in.

Peter is one of the most patient and big hearted men I’ve ever met. It’s obvious he would do anything for his family and the people he loves.

This shot below is one of my favorites from the session. We were doing a bottle break for Ethan and I turned to see Peter’s expression. It makes me tear up seeing how lovingly he looks at his child. Can you see the way baby Ethan’s hand is intertwined with Peter’s fingers? That’s the bond of a father and a son.

My favorite shots of Rhodes were the ones where his tongue or belly button are sticking out. It makes my heart happy to capture kids being free to be themselves.

The window light coming in through Peter and Catherine’s bedroom window was divine. I obviously had to pose them in it. I included a variety of shots where Rhodes was asked to pose versus when he was being silly and playful. Which ones do you like better?
