We shot Maggie’s Maternity Session on a very warm, Summer day at Arlington Garden in Pasadena, CA. The grounds are designed in a way that makes you feel like you’re in Italy and secluded from the rest of the bustling town that surrounds it. It literally felt like a little secret garden with twinkling magic hour light peaking through the trees. It was a perfect, relaxed place to have a summer evening Maternity Session. They welcomed their baby boy Landon very shortly after this session!
I hold Erin and Eric very close to my heart. They were one of the first weddings I ever shot. I look back and feel so grateful to have had such an in love couple put 100% of their trust in me from the beginning. They have always had an ease together that I feel so inspired by and their love for baby Elliott is no different.
Erin and Eric's home is a cozy place bathed in gorgeous window light that makes everything feel intimate and warm. I wanted to capture the close bond they now felt as a family of four...yes, I'm counting their adorable dog, Lacey, who made sure she wasn't left out of the photos.
I knew the moment I stepped into Erin and Jeff's home that they were a well traveled couple. Pictures of them in different parts of the world were scattered along the walls, a documentation of the adventures their love has taken them on. My favorite amongst them was the image of them in Cinque Terre on their wedding day. And then, I met Jack...and it was clear that he would be their biggest adventure yet. There was something about the glimmer in their eyes when they looked at him that seemed to reflect all the plans they had for him and it was beautiful to watch.
For Leslie's Maternity Session we decided to keep it lifestyle and relaxed by shooting in her Hollywood residence. Getting to use her home as our location was like being in Disneyland for me! The decor and architectural elements were all so gorgeous! I always love when soon-to-be-mommies opt to shoot in their home. I think it adds a really personal, intimate feel to the images.
The Holiday Season is such an amazing time in my year because I get to work with so many awesome people. This year was no exception. Not only did I get a chance to capture some very special return clients, but I also had the opportunity to meet some amazing new clients as well! One of my favorite things about my job is getting to capture the growth of my clients' families through out the years. It truly amazes me how quickly time goes by! I have been shooting many of these families from Maternity to Newborn to Family Sessions. I feel like the luckiest photographer in the world to give the gift of memories to my clients.
I waited awhile to post these because I know a lot of these images were intended to be used on Holiday cards and I didn't want to spoil the surprise. As I go through them all together in one grouping, I am amazed at how truly special this time of year is. The Holiday Season is about family and togetherness and going through these images made me feel overjoyed with so much love.
Wishing all of you a very Happy Holiday season with those you love! Thank you for an amazing season of Family Sessions...can't wait to do it again next year!
Isabel and Vinny were so adorable at their Maternity Session...it's wonderful when you can tell a couple is each other's best friend. I loved the way Isabel's gown caught the afternoon sunlight and her flower crown added that extra whimsical touch to the theme of her shoot. They are expecting their first child, Mia Dolce Vita ( My Sweet Life), in March and I couldn't be more excited to meet her!
My shoot with Presley was my last session of 2014. I spent my drive to The O'keefe's home reflecting on all the wonderful people I've met through photography over the year. I couldn't help but be captivated by the idea of a new year ahead...new opportunities, a fresh start, a new beginning. As I pulled up to The O'Keefe's home I was greeted by a birth announcement displayed prominently in their front yard. Baby Presley had arrived and their home was buzzing with excitement. I entered their home and could hear the faint whimpers of Presley coming from upstairs. Kelly brought her down to meet me and my heart instantly overflowed with love for this little miracle. Her parents looked at her in awe, too. I could tell they saw what I saw. From the soft, newness of her little feet to the glowing curiosity in her eyes, Presley was a new opportunity, a fresh start, a new beginning in this thing called life.
My Maternity Session with Melissa and her family will always be very dear to my heart. Not only was the location absolutely breathtaking, but also it was such an honor to be able to capture the coming of her 2nd child. It seems like just yesterday I was taking photos at her baby shower for Promise, her little girl. The Stivers are missionaries serving in Africa. They had just arrived back in America, to prepare for the birth of their son, a few days before our shoot. My mission for this session was to capture the essence of their lives living in Africa: wild, organic, and full of Spirit.
Melissa's demeanor exudes an ethereal sense of calm and love, so, I can't say I'm completely surprised that she was able to approach a herd of horses in the field where we shot. Surrounded by horses in a field during golden hour is pretty much the pinnacle of my dream come true as a photographer. I felt both fear and exhiliration as my camera clicked away and I think I repeatedly whispered, "This is happening."
Watching Melissa have that rare moment of connection with a wild animal may be one of those moments I'll never be able to recreate in my life. Eventually the sun ceased to glow that evening and, as I walked back across that golden range, I felt like I was overflowing with passion. Life is magical.
My session with Ava Grace was seriously one of the most soothing experiences I've ever had. The entire shoot was filled with music from the likes of Bob Marley and Jack Johnson, along with sweet Hawaiian melodies. The atmosphere was calm and tranquil...just as the expression on Kelly's face in these photos might suggest. I always tell my clients how special it is for me to shoot both their Maternity and Newborn Session. It's truly magical for me to behold the life that was once growing inside them. Kelly was no exception and I loved watching how gracefully she transitioned into being a mommy. Congratulations!
Babies have this way of melting the hearts of those around them and baby Rosie is no exception. From the moment I stepped into the door it was clear that she had single handedly captured the love of her mom and dad, not to mention her Grandparents, Aunties, and Uncles. It was clear from her pensive gaze and quirky smirk that she's going to be a playful little girl. I felt like her nursery, with interior design by the fabulous Casey Mason, reflected her personality perfectly. Check out Casey's awesome design blog here. I may have gone a little crazy shooting details because the decor was so darn cute! Enjoy!
Everything about my Maternity Session with Kelly and Doug was absolutely magical. Kelly looked beautiful in her peach dress which naturally seemed to catch the gorgeous evening light. The two were so overjoyed about the arrival of their daughter due next month...Kelly was literally glowing. I can't wait to meet your baby girl!
The Krupa family is always so much fun to work with...So, needless to say, I was super excited to hear that they would be adding another member to their family! Little Waverly was greeted by her doting parents and two adorable older brothers. It was so sweet to watch how gentle and loving her brothers were with her during our session. They were truly fascinated by how fragile and small she was. Thanks for another fun session and I can't wait to watch how quickly Waverly grows!
